Northern Virginia families should mark their calendars for The Ice Cream Race on June 27, 2015!
The Ice Cream Race is the sweetest family 5k event in the DC/MD/VA region. This year’s event will occur at Bull Run Park in Centreville, VA. We recently had a chance to meet with the race’s founder and find out more information about what to expect at this summer’s exciting event!
Max Bawarski has been organizing fun family 5k races for the past 4 years. He is the founder of The Ice Cream Race as well as the Blood and Guts Run. Running has been a passion of his since he was in grade school.
SCOOPS2U: “Do any of the race proceeds go to charity?”
Max: “A portion of the profits of The Ice Cream Race will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphona in 2006, so I feel that it is my duty to donate money every year to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.”
SCOOPS2U: “What will be different in this year’s race compared to last year?”
Max: “This year’s race will be a little different because we are adding a lot of new obstacles. Some of the new obstacles include: a cargo net, inflatable obstacle course, inflatable Slip N Slide and more! I am personally most excited about our new inflatable obstacles.”
SCOOPS2U: “What can race participants win?”
Max: “All race participants will receive a free tee shirt and ice cream. Participants can also win prizes at the after party for wildest costume. We will reward a cash prize to the fastest male and female of the first race. The first race of the day is at 8 am and this is our only competitive wave.”
SCOOPS2U: “Will there be other attractions at the race?”
Max: “We will have a variety of vendors, food trucks, a beer garden, two DJ’s, an interactive photo booth, and much more!”
